Häkkilä museum of local history

Kirkkojärventie 156 Toholampi

On the other side of Kirkkojärvi, known as a source of iron ore, you can find the Häkkilä museum of local history. The museum courtyard features two buildings from the 1700s. A local theatre association also has its outdoor stage and auditorium in this area. The main building serves as a village hall. It is a former school building showcasing articles from the old days. The museum collections include a pistol related to a tragic murder that occurred in late 1915, which was reported widely in newspapers. The pistol was made by an unknown skilled blacksmith, but nothing more is known about its origin.
